David Stewart, PhD, RA, has degrees in mathematics, physics, and geophysics. He received his PhD from the University of Missouri at Rolla in 1971. He was a professor of Geophysics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1971–1978. During this time he was Director of the MacCarthy Geophysics Laboratory, received a number of research grants, and published more than a dozen research papers.

From 1978–1988 he was Executive Director of the International Association of Parents and Professionals for Safe Alternatives in Childbirth (NAPSAC International) during which time he authored or coauthored seven books on topics including natural childbirth, nutrition in pregnancy, midwifery, obstetrics, neonatology, and breastfeeding. Two of his publications won the "Books of the Year" Award from the American Journal of Nursing. One of his publications on breastfeeding, published by La Leche League International, sold over 2,000,000 copies in 10 languages.

From 1988–1993 Dr. Stewart was a professor at Southeast Missouri State University at Cape Girardeau. During this period he was Director of the Central U.S. Earthquake Consortium, a federal agency, and Director of the Center for Earthquake Studies. He received a number of research grants and published more than 2 dozen technical papers and 2 books.

Since 1993 he has published 4 more books, including Healing Oils of the Bible, which documents the role of aromatherapy in Biblical times. He has more than 200 publications, mostly in areas of alternative health care.

A Registered Aromatherapist (RA), he is Executive Director of the Center for Aromatherapy Research and Education.
