Description

Homemade Liquid Hand Soap

Ingredients:

1 gallon of distilled water
8 oz. bar of soap* (preferably something gentle and unscented)
2 Tbsp. liquid vegetable glycerin
10–20 drops essential oil

Instructions:

  • Grate the bar soap (by hand or with a food processor).
  • Pour the distilled water into a large pot, and add the grated soap.
  • Heat the water and soap over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the soap has completely dissolved. Turn the stove off, and add 2 Tbsp. of liquid glycerin to the soap mixture.
  • Once the mixture has cooled, add 10–20 drops of your favorite essential oil (to desired strength). Let the soap sit for 24 hours—in which time it will thicken significantly.
  • Use an electric mixer to blend the soap until smooth. Pour the soap into soap dispensers.
You will want to choose your soap dispenser based on how thick your soap is. Our 8 oz. Natural Plastic Bottle with Pump works well for thicker soaps, and our 8 oz. Foamer Pump Bottle works well for thinner soaps. You can store the extra soap in the gallon jug that the distilled water came in or in another container. Then refill your soap dispensers as needed.

*Note: The thickness of your soap will largely be determined by the soap bar you choose. Bar soaps known for their moisturizing properties (like Dove) will produce a thinner soap.
