Aromatherapy is an ancient practice of using naturally distilled roots, leaves, bark, stems and flowers of the plant for their essential oils.
Ancient texts describe how Egyptian priests and physicians used essential oils thousand of years before the time of Christ. The Egyptians annointed their bodies with aromatic oils and burned Elemi, Frankincense, Myrrh and Sandalwood incense to glorify their gods. They were the first to use them in the earliest cosmetics. They believed in bathing often and annointing their bodies with thearomatics to keep their skin healthy and youthful.
The Egyptians believed in perfuming their bodies to make themselves more attractive and alluring. Many of their ointments served as medicines as well due to their healing properties. Cleopatra was known for her extravagant use of roses and other aromatics, supposedly to seduce Mark Antony.
