AUTHOR INFORMATION
Sylla Sheppard-Hanger has over 20 years of experience practicing aromatherapy and researching the power of essential oils with the foremost experts in aromatic and medicinal plants, essential oils, and herbology.
In 1988, Sylla was a founding member of the American Aromatherapy Association and served 2 terms on the Board of Directors. She completed the International Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Program at Perdue University, Indiana, in 1993. She developed comprehensive educational programs that are presented throughout the United States. She is also Founder and Director of the Atlantic Institute of Aromatherapy in Tampa, Florida. She authored and published both The Aromatherapy Practitioner Correspondence Course and
The Aromatherapy Practitioner Reference Manuel. Besides writing articles for aromatherapy journals and for magazines related to skincare and bodywork, Sylla also published Plant Aromatics by Martin Watt (1994 USA Edition).
Sylla teaches classes and is a Continuing Education Provider (Boards of Massage and Nursing) for the state of Florida. She volunteers her time and aromatic skills to women's abuse recovery groups and to a local cancer hospital. She consults for private aromatherapy companies and maintains a private aromatherapy practice (as a licensed massage therapist and cosmetologist) in Tampa Florida, where she resides with her husband Orion (O.V.), daughter Nyssa, and a cat.
